Re: Writing Process
(Anonymous) 2016-01-27 02:40 am (UTC)(link)For writing, I keep a notebook by my bed and a notepad on me so when an idea strikes, I can write down some key phrases to remind myself about it. Then I write up the idea in a word document. I've got tons of ideas like that. Sometimes I add extensions or additions or variations to the idea as I keep thinking about it.
If I decide I want to write the idea, I usually write it up again but it way more detail. I find that irons out a lot of story kinks. But this is just what happens, not necessarily how the story will go, as it will include back history and character motivation, etc. So then I make an outline of how the story goes. I leave it for awhile and then ruthlessly slash the outline and combine stuff to make it as tight a story as possible (mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to write more than I have to or write something I have to throw away, since that always feels like waste of time). I might do this a few times until I have the time to write.
Then I make a schedule. I almost never keep my schedule (unless there's a deadline) but it's useful to keep me writing. I try not to be too ambitious but to keep momentum going. And then I write it up. I try to find a beta but usually can't find one so I sit on the story for awhile until it's not fresh in my head and then go over it and edit it a few times until I've caught a majority of typos.
I find the hardest part is then figuring out tagging and a summary.
