Could you please explain how you know your readers didn't "get" your story?

Most comments I get on my fic are of the "I enjoyed this!" nature, so I have no way of knowing if my readers are getting any particular point I'm writing. I'm confused what kind of reader feedback you're getting that makes you feel misunderstood.

Along the same lines, there are plenty of fics where the dynamics seriously creep me out - so I just move along, figuring it's not for me and nobody wants to hear about that.
