Yea, I have trouble keeping up with everything tbh. TV, games, comics... And I haven't been into anime heavily since my teen years, so when people mention all these new series...I don't recognize many, and even those are mostly things I know through osmosis or fell behind on. I've always been a more casual anime fan, so much so that I feel weird saying "I like anime" because most the time I don't know what people are talking about.

I was more heavily into it as a teen but when I was a teen it felt like there were less series going on (and there was DEFINITELY less getting brought to my country, I basically survived through fansubs.) I spent at least a few years knowing what was popular and watching anime constantly, but it became too much to keep up as an adult.

Now it's like, I get in the mood to watch anime every once in a while but I rarely watch new stuff, and the new stuff I do watch is often a bit on the old side because it might just be something that hit netflix recently.

I definitely feel like to classify yourself as an "anime fan" to people you don't know there needs to be some knowledge of current stuff, otherwise you're just sitting there blinking at a person and in my case being like, "Hey, remember this anime that came out 20 years ago? That was great."

I feel that way too. Maybe I wasn't aware of everything that was available, but I find it just as likely that now more shows are being translated (and sooner); anime did blow up, so it's more common now.

There was a time where when you talked about popular series, there were a handful. Now every 'season' it feels like there's 50 shows.

I get in the mood to watch anime every once in a while

That's me.

"Hey, remember this anime that came out 20 years ago? That was great."

Haha, yea! I'm mostly stuck in that time too. (Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, etc)

This is why I'm a little more hesitant to go to anime cons these days. I did when I was in school, but since I've fallen off the bandwagon regarding anime, it just...doesn't exactly feel right anymore. :/
