I taught myself how to read at four so I get it, but that's the thing: Your case and my case, they are unusual. And if our stories showed up in fanfiction, I would expect them to be treated as such. But they usually aren't. It's usually 'oh yes, Emily was speaking complete sentences by 10 months, we won't comment on this, nothing unusual here."

That's fair. I think my point was Sherlock is supposed to be the super genius of all super geniuses so it's not toooo terrible to have him develop quickly.

But yes, treating that as if it's normal is just plain incorrect.

Oh, there's the problem! My fault, I didn't mean literally fic about baby Sherlock, I was using his name to reference the fact that all babies in fic seem to be super geniuses.

Ohhhhh I get you now.

Yes, but you see, that's because no one actually knows how to write a baby that is not a "tiny adult". Well, ok, some people do but they probably aren't writing fanfic.

Yep. And I think a lot of it also has to do with them giving a character a baby and then realizing that newborns are boring and therefor rushing all the milestone so they can have giggling cuteness. You can always tell they don't have kids.
