I also noted that the production team seemed to actively work against the Tauriel character. Like, during the scene where she's banished, which should be this huge moment for her and reveal a lot about her character, she's shot blurry and out of focus behind Legolas. The focus isn't even on her.

And there are two instances where something momentous for her is going on and the camera only shows the back of her head. It's so clear that character development for her just didn't matter. She really is just a token female and nothing more.
