Because when something becomes popular it becomes less of an in joke, I imagine, or something. It doesn't really make sense...but as an example.

I got one of my acquaintances into Gunnerkrigg Court (http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/), and if she starts spreading it around I'll be really mad because it isn't SUPER HUGE or anything and she kindaaa has a tendency to fangirl over things. It may be selfish, but it is true, and embarrassing. But at the same time, I think that the Caramell dance is pretty great, even if those videos are annoying.

I can see that in some ways, but in others... IDK. Popularity means a lot of people like it, right? And while sometimes it's annoying because it becomes less personal, or because other less popular things get pushed aside... it should be something positive and fun right?

And, I figure, if you get annoyed by seeing too much of one kind of icon there's some other sort of problem than just 'omg it's popular' going on.

Oh yeah, it is great when more people are into smaller things, because they get bigger, but on the flip side there are things that get popular for no apparent reason, and that probably makes me more mad because people are all

OMG Dominic Deegan! Control Alt Delete! Questionable Content! Friendly Hostility! And I'm just like askldfjkdfdfjk I don't understand D:. Well, except for with Friendly Hostility a little bit.

But yeah, complaining about icons that are just completely unserious is just dumb. Icons aren't srs bsns? At least not terribly?

...Of course, this is coming from someone who can't really do much in the way of icon making.
