This is me with the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom.

The dumbest ship name I came across there was "Bananashipping" for Tristan/Marik, because, get this: Marik's hair is sort of kind of yellow-ish (like a banana!) and Tristan's hair is pointy and thus sort of kind of shaped like a banana if you squint. No, really. I couldn't make this shit up if I tried.

I'm not in this fandom, I'm not a gamer... but I have seen a fair amount of the cartoon, and I once wrote a short Iris/Trip fic as a gift for a friend (who was frustrated as it's apparently a really obscure pairing in the fandom).

They asked if I was going to post it online, and warned me to make sure to mark it with the correct ship name so people didn't get pissy about it. Apparently the "correct" ship name is "flavescentshipping". Whut.

Because "flavescent" = yellowish (I did not even know this without consulting a dictionary), and one character wears yellowish clothes, and the other has yellowish hair!

...Riiiight. I can definitely see how that makes so much more sense than just tagging it as "Iris/Trip". Seriously, do people pick these ship names to be as counterintuitive as possible on purpose, or are there just so damn many ships that this kind of name is necessary because all the sensible ones have been used already?

Anyway, I chose not to post the fic online.
