Barbie only came up with this new line after other different and more diverse dolls were selling them.

Including some of Mattel's own brands...

Yep, I'm pretty sure Monster High was a big motivator in this change as well since Monster High offers all different dolls (body molds are similar in many but there's still more to offer then what you get with Barbie.)
