I'm not into the Lammily myself but I'm curious why you'd want to see them out of business? They were trying to strike a market Barbie had been ignoring for TOO LONG and Barbie only came up with this new line after other different and more diverse dolls were selling them.

Like this Barbie line should have happened a long time ago but Barbie is only being progressive now because they finally see the profit in it.

I do think the Barbie line is cuter, but if people want Lammily they should have that option too.

http://www.elle.com/culture/movies-tv/news/a15321/lammily-real-barbie-nickolay-lamm/

I was reading something on the Internet, and I remember a commenter that kind of read my mind. I think it was on Huff Post. On some story, he posted a comment that said something like 'To the male, to me, Barbie…she kind of looks alien-like.' And that's what sparked it. I agree. If Barbie were a real woman, she'd be intimidating and cold, and what I like about real women is that they're warm and friendly. I just wanted to create an image that would reflect that.

I don't mind that he wanted to do this, but his intentions seem kind of odd.

I think it sounds like he's trying to deal with some serious insecurities, myself.

Barbie only came up with this new line after other different and more diverse dolls were selling them.

Including some of Mattel's own brands...

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, I'm pretty sure Monster High was a big motivator in this change as well since Monster High offers all different dolls (body molds are similar in many but there's still more to offer then what you get with Barbie.)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but there is a lot of bad blood between Barbie and Lammily factions over the fact that Lammily marketed almost entirely by blasting Barbie.

Personally Lammily pisses *me* off because her body shape is just as unlikely for me as Barbie's is for anyone else. And therefore declaring her the perfect example of the average woman I feel like they're telling me that my body type (short and skinny) is freakish. and I need to step aside because Real Woman Have Curves

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the different is (or is supposed to be) that Lammily has a body that is *possible* where Barbie's old body was literally not something that could be achievable by a human person.

I don't think either should be brought out as representative of *everyone*. When you have one doll mold, that's impossible. For Lammily proposing the idea of multiple dolls on the first run may have been too costly (keep in mind that before all the attention, this was someone with nowhere near the money or resources of Barbie.)

That's why I think the new Barbie line of several dolls is a good thing. But I don't think it needs to KILL Lammily if people really want Lammily, like I said, I think the Barbie line is cuter and I don't like Lammily myself but I'm not going to wish something gone just because I'm not into it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I think the coolest thing about Lammily is the sticker marks. Acne, freckles, scars, bruises, cellulite, and now underwear and menstrual pads! That's fucking awesome. Real people have that, so why not a fashion doll?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
... because it's a fashion doll and it's not supposed to be real? It's basically just supposed to be a vehicle for the millions of outfits.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
DA I don't know if "it isn't real" is a great argument against making something more realistic. A doll can have all the things anon above mentioned and still have 5 million outfits.

Even Barbie is based on reality to a certain extent, it's not like she's supposed to be some alien.

It's fine to enjoy the fantasy of Barbie but some people may like a different type of doll. Everyone is different, this is true for kids as well.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
So why make her humanoid at all? Why not give us a purple-skinned, three-legged thing with cute dresses?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Monster High needs a three legged doll!

Well, we did get those Mer-people. Kala can be considered with mutiple "legs".

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
IDK, none of that is really an argument to have that doll come off the market completely though. Like some of those suggestions could even be put towards future dolls and accessories? This guy was not coming out with all the resources Barbie has, he needed one product he could sell to people and he needed to make sure it would sell before going further with it.

Like I don't really like the doll myself, I already said as much, but I think if other people like it then that's great and they should buy it. Barbie SHOULD have competition in the market, Barbie not having competition makes it hard to get the company to ever change. But when there's more competition change happens a lot quicker.

I love fantasy dolls, I'm not arguing against that at all, I am saying that if the market has room for both, why not have both?

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're opposed to Lammily because Tumblr told you to be.

Cute.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
You didn't actually read any of those links, did you?

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I did. You hate Lammily because Tumblr hates Lammily, and that's fucking hilarious.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, I was right. You didn't read them.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I did. There is nothing in any of those links that gives a reason for hating it other than "not up to Tumblrina standards."

Your move. She run over your dog while fucking your mother and burning down your house?

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Your prior comments suggest to me that you are dismissing the content of those links based solely on the website they're hosted on, as if anyone who agrees with anything posted on tumblr must by definition be some sort of crazy SJW.

If I had linked to a bunch New York Times articles that supported my view on a certain topic, would you claim that I held that view "because the New York Times told me to"? Somehow I doubt it.

And by the way, I wouldn't say I hate Lammily. Hate is a rather strong word for something so insignificant. But I do find the ideology behind her creation irritating, and it would give me a sick sense of satisfaction if the dolls ceased production. It's petty, I know that. That's why I've posted this opinion to Fandom Secrets.

You seem very angry about this. Perhaps you should go take a nap.

Yep, I would have. Getting your opinion from one site is fucking stupid.

Says someone who is so angry at a hunk of plastic that they want it to not exist anymore. lol.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
What you don't understand is that it's not a matter of "getting" an opinion from one specific source. I merely linked to posts that back up the opinions I formed by myself after reading up on the genesis of Lammily and its creator's views of what a fashion doll should be. That those posts all happened to come from tumblr is irrelevant.

Says someone who is so angry at a hunk of plastic that they want it to not exist anymore. lol.

You seem to be under the impression that I'm a lot more upset about this than I actually am. Haven't you ever looked at something you found annoying and thought yourself "Gee, this thing sure is annoying. I wish it would go away." ?

For the love of god please tell me that's not real merchandise for a doll... because it looks like shit I could make with 0 sewing experience and cheap materials. When I was 10.

Ew, those do look even worse than the original boring clothes. And they're charging over ten bucks for them?

Ugh, yeah, that's... that's just bad.
