They're going to be more widely available and probably cheaper, I hope so!

Yeah, I've always wondered why non-Mattel 11-inch dolls always look so bad and not aesthetically pleasing at all.

I'm super into the new Barbies, but it annoys me like CRAZY that the "petite" dolls are basically a Skipper redux.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not into the Lammily myself but I'm curious why you'd want to see them out of business? They were trying to strike a market Barbie had been ignoring for TOO LONG and Barbie only came up with this new line after other different and more diverse dolls were selling them.

Like this Barbie line should have happened a long time ago but Barbie is only being progressive now because they finally see the profit in it.

I do think the Barbie line is cuter, but if people want Lammily they should have that option too.

Neither will last. The notion that little girls will choose "regular" over "pretty" is ridiculous. Props at least to Mattel for realizing that and making the new dolls fashionable, but without articulation (seriously, I would buy that doll in the pic just for her pretty face, but I got no use for her without articulation, so skinny body here we come) and some serious push to integrate the new-bodied dolls into the entire line, this is just gonna turn into "that one weird doll your mom's friend gave you for your birthday that you always make play the authority figure".

I have a grudge against Lammily dolls just on account of their horrible, horrible name, but it is true that they are generally inferior to Barbies and also that as a kid I would probably have liked this doll purely on account of her sweet looking hair

I haven't given Barbie any serious thought in years, but I actually wouldn't mind owning this doll. She's pretty, stylish (seriously, I want that outfit and her hair is fantastic) and I like her body shape. (Even after all my weight loss, I don't have a teeny tiny waist, nor will I ever. This Barbie looks a bit more like me, which is kind of cool.)

I like her hair, and her outfit, it's cute.

No thoughts on Lammily dolls as I'm not familiar with those.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, that doll looks a lot like Kim Kardashian. Who I think is stunning so I have no problem with that.

From what I can tell just by looking at them, these dolls are still exaggerated, but sells the point. Lammily tried to go too realistic and she just looked...weird next to other fashion dolls.

My only quibble is that I wish these were more articulated, like the new Super Articulated Barbies that I saw.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What's the deal, OP? Give us the gory details. Did Lammily hurt your family?

Seeing the new Barbies makes me wish I still had money to waste on trying doll customizing again. I hope they do something similar with Ken.

More on topic: I think they might do better than Lammily, like others have said Lammily is boring as fuck while Barbie just looks more fun.

I think they look fantastic but my only beef is that they all have the same face. As in... LITERALLY the same face.

slightly OT but

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
does anyone feel like... genuine but irrational pity when they look at dolls? like, i just feel horribly bad for them, but i don't know why. i've always had this and it freaks me out really hard.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really care about Lammily, but I love the new Barbie designs. I've never seen one of those dolls that actually looks like me before. If I'd seen those as a kid, I probably would have wanted one.

1. What is Lammily?
2. Is that Barbie?
3. Why is Barbie fat?

My main problem with the Lame-y doll is that it was made by a guy trying to cash in on the feminist body positivity movement. Guys in the movement trying to weaponize it to get laid or get paid? That needs to die.

I haven't thought about Barbie in ages, but I kinda want this one. I like how she looks. Dunno what I'd do with her though. I used to pretend my blonde Barbie was Marie Antoinette and chop off her head while my brunette Barbie kidnapped Ken and freed the kingdom of France. I was a strange child.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hi OP, just wanted to share that I didn't know about the Lammily doll and I'm really glad to know about it.

I always hated Barbie as a little girl. I've never enjoyed playing with dolls but I know a lot of girls do. It makes me happy that someone is giving Barbie a run for their money even if it's so small time.

I'm cynical about the new Barbie. I hope it's a trend for the better and more variety in doll body types, but I'm still cynical. I don't really think much of the company, tbh.

Well when it comes to "anti-Barbies" my favourite remains Feral Cheryl:

http://www.feralcheryl.com.au/

She manages to be un-Barbie, does it with good humour, has more to her than being "ordinary" (she's a hippie), she comes from Nimbin, which is a satellite village of my hometown, and I remember when she first became famous as I was still living there at the time.

Meanwhile this is Roz:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/MajinBakaHentai/20150331_143734.jpg

She's a Cut and Style Barbie from the mid-90s -

https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8146/7294808184_1c291ef395_b.jpg

(I probably bought her in 1996). That outfit came from a clothing line that was out at the same time. I need to give it a good wash though.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Kids aren't going to play with the wide-hipped Barbie. They've already found that in trials, once they thought the adults weren't looking, their favorite thing to do with her was strip her down and laugh at her. This included the overweight kids.

The tall and petite ones did okay though.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-01 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
this is only tangentially related, but does anyone remember a set of dolls that came out in the 90s that were also meant to be realistically bodied compared to barbie? the one i had had a nice set of accessories and came with a storybook that showed her wearing the outfits she came with. i remember it being a nice doll and wanting more like her, but i can't remember what she/her friends were called for the life of me.
