I've actually been on the other side of the coin recently.

For me, writing porn is fun and easy. It's a great way to get the creative juices flowing again.

Someone whose opinion mattered to me basically told me to "stop writing so much smut".

I haven't written anything in months because I'm dealing with the mental fallout (yes, I have documented mental issues, am seeing a therapist, and am on meds).

I actually commend the writer the OP is complaining about for sticking to his/her guns and continuing the long, angsty fic despite the drop in reviews/hits/etc.
