You claim this writer isn't "good enough" to be writing angsty multi-chapter fics, and yet that's how people improve, they step outside of their comfort zone and try. So instead of telling them to go back to writing porn because they're not a great writer otherwise, how about nicely pointing out the shit that needs to be improved? As long as you aren't a prick about it, they'll start to improve over time.

Or it'll turn out they're one of those people who can't accept even constructive criticism, but then they're just being childish.

This. And a decrease in comments when comparing PWP to multi-chapter fics isn't always a fair comparison. Some people just don't read multi-chapter, and if her followers are the ones commenting on the PWP, maybe the multi-chapter isn't their thing. Also doesn't mean it's a terrible story either.

IA with this. Even if the author isn't used to writing this kind of story yet, practice will help them improve. If OP doesn't like their non-smutty stuff they can either ask if they want constructive criticism, or move on and read something else.

Because most people write what they want to write, so let them do it.

I've actually been on the other side of the coin recently.

For me, writing porn is fun and easy. It's a great way to get the creative juices flowing again.

Someone whose opinion mattered to me basically told me to "stop writing so much smut".

I haven't written anything in months because I'm dealing with the mental fallout (yes, I have documented mental issues, am seeing a therapist, and am on meds).

I actually commend the writer the OP is complaining about for sticking to his/her guns and continuing the long, angsty fic despite the drop in reviews/hits/etc.
