TBH this is true for a lot of high profile superheroes. More people "like" them than people who actually are into the media.

and I'm a person like that. I don't even begin to claim to know about her history, but i'm interested in what i've seen and am excited for her upcoming film debuts. Unless the people OP is running into claim to be historians and know absolutely nothing, I'm not sure what their issue is unless they're just that upset that they thought they could talk to someone about her and find they can't.

Sure, and that's fine!

But yeah, OP might be frustrated because of that, which is fair. I mean, I don't claim to be an expert, but i do like to meta about characters I like - so yeah, it does show if people only have superficial knowledge.

Oh yes. Not saying there's a minimum amount of knowledge you have to have about a character before you say you can like them, but most superhero fans have relatively shallow knowledge of characters who have been written in different ways for decades.

I think WW suffers from this more than many characters, but the problem isn't unique.

+1 You just have to ask people how many Robins there have been. Only like, one out of six go "There's more than one?"

Ugh, miswrote. Only one out of six *doesn't* go "There's more than one?"

I actually understood!

To be fair, at least another one of those six will be saying it tongue-in-cheek.

I can believe this.

I'm this way with Wonder Woman too; I like the idea of her and I've seen her in a few cartoons and random comic pages across the net, but I don't have a deep understanding of who she is. (Or, being realistic, even a halfway basic one.)

I wouldn't even call myself a fan because I'm not knowledgeable enough to hold a conversation about her, lol.
