So, a small portion of the internet has blown up because TheFineBros are trying to trademark Reaction Videos. After the backlash they tried to explain that there were only trademarking THEIR format. But their format is vague and pretty basic (people react and are asked questions). And after being ripped apart during damage control on youtube and reddit, they did another explanation and apology video. It is not going well for them. : /

If their format is sufficiently vague, wouldn't they be disallowed the trademark to begin with? I wouldn't think it would be that hurtful overall. But I've never watched them, so.

I wouldn't care if they weren't hitting random small youtube publishers with takedowns for using the words "react to" in their videos even if they're not copying the format exactly.

I've watched a handful of reaction videos to their initial announcement, but other than that ... they seem a little arrogant about trademarking that and it blew up in their face.

They're not just trademarking their format, they're offering the opportunity to other people to use their resources to do the exact same thing they're doing. I think people are being pretty stupid about the whole thing. Besides, people have been complaining about other react channels and pointing out The Fine Bros as a paragon of the format, I'm surprised people are reacting like that. I honestly think people just don't understand what it is exactly they're trying to do.

It is nice, because it opens up other content creators to a range of tools and counsel and most importantly, viewers that they might not otherwise access, potentially aiding ther channel growth beyond what they could get on their own, but you go right on blindly hating, dude.

Nnnno, their format is very specific. Their videos all follow a set pattern. There are many ways to do a react video without having a group of children, teenagers, elders, or Youtubers following the exact Fine Bros script.

I've been sitting here watching their channel hemorrhage subscribers, and I'm starting to think I will be the last one left. It's amazing how people have overreacted to this (no pun intended). It's seriously on par with gun nuts bawwing about how the world will go to hell if we try to take a few assault rifles away from felons.

Well, I saw that video and have to agree. It was an extremely shitty money grab and they literally framed it like their reaction videos were a boon to humanity and they were doing the world a favour by "letting" people use "their" format for making content.

It was the most soulless cash grab I've seen from any youtuber in ages.

It's a basic business model. I am successful. Other people want to be successful. I can let them mooch off my fame while I take a cut of their profit. I don't know why everyone is so up in arms over this.
