That's incredibly petty, you dickhead.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY.

Like, what the actual fuck. The author likely slaved over that chapter/story--one that they're not even getting paid for, mind you--and the one thing of value you could give them...you won't. Because they don't reply to comments, for reasons of which you aren't even aware of.

Just. Ugh. This mentality disgusts me so much. Fucking lazy readers. If authors were as lazy as some of you fuckers are there'd be no fucking fanfiction. And yet, even when they get little to no recognition for their efforts most of them still continue to update and publish.

Y'know how on FFN some authors would withhold chapters until they got X number of reviews? Well, I always hated that, but honestly, sometimes I understand why. An author of this story I used to follow did that--stated something along the lines of "I'm not going to update this if you guys can't be bothered to leave a comment" and WHAM. The comments started flooding in. Like, the fuck? Authors shouldn't have to fucking beg to get reviews. Readers should just be decent human beings and leave comments if they like a fic.

Yeah, I try to avoid authors that withhold chapters and beg for reviews. Most of the time their writing isn't even that great beyond being a guilty pleasure.

I always leave a comment/review if I like what I read. I know the author will read it but I don't care if they reply or not. It's just my thoughts on their work. I don't need to be thanked for leaving a comment.

What kind of entitled asshole needs to be thanked for something that probably didn't require much effort on their part? It's just a comment, your not paying them FFS.

Yeah.

Like, honestly, if you don't want to leave a comment at all, that's one thing. Leave a comment or don't, fuck it, whatever. But this is just so trifling and ridiculous.

Same. I don't approve of holding a chapter hostage, but at the same time I shake my head over all the readers who follow a fic without leaving a single review.

NA

I am both a writer and a reader. I reply to all the comments I get, unless it's something really rude or wanky (and I've gotten that maybe once, and I just deleted it).

I also leave comments on other people's fics. Long, detailed comments. However, there are a few exceptions, and these are authors who never, ever reply to mine — although they’ve replied to other people’s. AFAIK we have not interacted elsewhere in fannish spaces. Fuck them, I won’t leave them comments anymore. If that’s petty, I own that and don’t care. Why should I praise you when you can't even be bothered to thank me?

Fucking lazy readers. If authors were as lazy as some of you fuckers are there'd be no fucking fanfiction.

Back at you. How much fucking effort does it take for the author to reply to everybody?

Authors shouldn't have to fucking beg to get reviews.

Nobody is owed reviews. If nobody's reviewing your work, maybe you should write better and knock off your entitled temper tantrums. Instead of throwing new ones, sometimes with SJ overtones, here or on Tumblr.

Convincing argument.
