he also fought Voldemort

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't do that good a job, did he.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2016-02-04 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
even Dumbldore didn't do a good job...

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
It was Dumbledore's and Snape's machinations that ultimately helped Harry defeat him.

James just got himself killed.

Hmm... what if he bought enought time with his death for Lily to make the sacrifice? Like if not for him, it would be a fast 'Avada' in the back so she wouldn't even see it coming.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't a matter of buying Lily time, because Voldemort would have still given Lily a chance to stand aside due to Snape begging him to spare her.

I bow to your Harry Potter knoweledge. *a courtly bow*

(Anonymous) 2016-02-07 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
But James didn't know that, so anon's point doesn't really stand. For all James knew he was buying them time.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Um, James defying Voldemort 3 times is what made Harry relevant in the first place.

And personally I have a lot more respect for someone who didn't have to be personally invested but saw the cause as worth fighting for nevertheless, even if he doesn't wind up making a difference.

Instead of saving his family. That always got me that he and Lily chose to risk their child's life when they knew he was in danger.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, he said "Take Harry and run", you know.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get this at all. What more do you think he and Lily should have done? Basically as soon as Harry was born they went into hiding under ostensibly the safest hiding-charm in the HP world. It's not like they kept fighting even after Harry was born. It's not their fault their friend turned out to be a traitor.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-04 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Risk his life by...going into hiding in the most thorough way possible, even if it meant having to step back and stop fighting for the cause they believed in?

They were in hiding in Godric's Hollow. They were no longer participating actively in Order missions. The only reason Harry was in danger that night was because the man they chose as Secret Keeper precisely because he was unobtrusive enough that the Death Eaters would probably dismiss him as a possibility while still being a close enough friend to keep their secret loyally turned out to actually be a double agent, which no one could have predicted.

Or should they have not fought Voldemort before Harry was born solely because they might possibly one day have a child who might fulfill a prophecy that hadn't even been made at the time?

Has anyone made the argument that having a kid in the first place was abusive because I bet they will.
