Guys with... complex, fully-realized relationships with their mothers that actually figure into the story? I'm kind of over daddy issues for male AND female characters, but the guys are way more likely to have them. Meanwhile mothers are either absent, non-entities, or important only in some untouchable canonized way (i.e. Lily Potter).

I love it when male characters have female mentors. It's really cool when it comes up.

Genkai of YYH really set the bar on this one for me. I'm really into it.

This is why I actually like Wesley Crusher.
