That's kind of why I like it I think. I like angsty things. And I like the idea of them being the only people they have left. And Maedhros I think was still damaged from what happened to him in Angband and all the death and misery was exacerbating the PTSD he already had. So I'm intrigued by the idea of them clinging to each other and becoming something other than just brothers. I don't know.

For me, because I also can only see it happening post-Nirnaeth, this ship is like the final twist of the dysfunction knife, signaling that these characters (and Maedhros particularly) are finally and utterly broken beyond all hopes. I like (?) it because of that, but it's dark stuff.

That's pretty much how I feel. I love dark and angsty things (and honestly the Silmarillion is so full of dark and angsty things already, what's one more?).

Yeah but normally I like to linger in the Siege of Angband, when things were gloomy but there were glimmers of lightness and everyone was more or less sane and on their top behavior.

That makes sense. I tend to like the darker aspects of canon. One of the things that draws me to the Silmarillion is how dark and depressing it really is. A lot of really horrible things happen. That and there are a lot of really interesting, complex characters.
