Books you're surprised exist

Or movies, shows, etc.

Based on #1.

I'm not surprised they exist per say. But I just don't get why reality shows (the non-competition kind that is) exist and are so popular. Or why tabloids are popular for that matter. How are these things remotely interesting? Why would anyone want to waist their time with them? Clearly there are reasons, but I just don't get it.

My theory? Schadenfreude.

I actually think they exist in the US, at least, because of the writer's strike. Or at least that's where it started; networks became desperate to film their slots with something.

Although that doesn't work 100% because it seems to me mostly NBC does reality TV. And ABC.

I also think people like watching people they think are either better than them or worse off than them to reassure themselves their lives aren't that bad, at least.

SA - CORRECTION

*mostly TLC does reality TV. Sorry, I'd been going to say "NBC for instance doesn't."

That's actually two of his! I forgot to remove the italics on the and!

I looked at one of his books on Amazon and my recommendations were pretty interesting for a while after that little mistake.

Maybe not in the past, but these days I am shocked video game guide books exist. You can look that up for free online! And it is updated for patches/DLC.

Also, any guides on how to do stuff like programming and such. That stuff is always changing, any book would be outdated in like....months. Also, free resources online.

The first time I saw a cover of one of Chuck Tingle's books I just sat back and stared at my laptop for several minutes wondering what sins the world had committed that this existed.

Then I laughed myself sick and moved on.

Someone mentioned reality TV, and... I'm surprised more of them haven't faced serious inquiries, or took so long for that to happen. Toddlers & Tiaras? Major, major creepy stuff going on there. (Although I'm not sure the show's on anymore. I really hope not.)

I'm a little surprised The Bachelor is legal.

The most baffling entry I ever saw on TV Tropes was for something called Lolita Complex Phoenix. Apparently it's a black comedy about a secret organization of wealthy pedophiles and their various schemes to entrap little girls (which the page consistently referred to as "lolis.") I felt like I might need to pour bleach inside my monitor.

I probably would have turned TV Tropes into the FBI for the site promoting niggar pedophillia.
