According to that, they covered it up because it would be damaging for the political party in power, not because they were afraid of being called racists.

I would also point out that being concerned about sparking racial violence is not at all the same as being afraid of being called racist. It's like categorically different.

I think this is a bad situation, I think that probably the police and state authorities in these places are completely unequipped to deal with the problem, and i think the way of communicating and talking about it has been very bad. but the idea seems to go around that the solution here is to end political correctness and let people be assholes to immigrants and the problem will go away and i just don't think that's true.
