yeah. he has his own patterns and preference - for example he generally likes proactive, dominant girls, but they don't get to show their vulnerabilities as much as the guys.
but hey, those tropes are pretty unusual at large.

as you say there are lots of factors, but it really helped that almost half of the big cast is female.

Yeah, you're right about both those things, but I do make an effort to watch female-run stuff, like Jessica Jones and Agent Carter, and I read a bunch of webcomics too, most I... Well, I assume they're written by girls, but come to think about it I haven't really checked.

LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD just warning people casually reading this thread
But while I agree that a lot of the gals are proactive and dominant, I disagree that they don't get to be as emotional as the guys. I consider them pretty even at that front; look at Vriska! Talking to John about how she regretted killing Tavros, (Vriska), crying as Meenah leaves her for Vriska (that sentence - only in Homestuck, I swear to god), Terezi when she gets Dave killed, Roxy being unable to kiss Jane, Jane's anger issues, Kanaya when she gets the orb, and Jadespirite. I mean I don't deny that Karkat and Jake are like wet sponges but I don't think that the any of the girls in any way come off as invulnerable.

And that's part of the reason why I think they're so great! I think that a common pitfall when trying to make badass female characters is that they instead remove to much of their humanity, like... Whatever the fuck The Walking Dead the TV series did to Michonne.

If you have any other to recommend I'd gladly check it out though!

I agree re: Vriska and Meenah, not so much re: Roxy, Jane and Kanaya, at least when compared to the guys. Of course they're not emotionless. You say in the thread that they're your favs, so obviously they work well enough.

Still, Roxy's relationship to Jane was troubled but then it got dropped almost entirely. It was very obvious that Hussie set it up to be more of a thing after Rose and Jade revolved so much about their male friends that they had no bond together.

We know a lot more about what Dave and Karkat felt about Terezi's soda addiction than about Kanaya's emotions about her girlfriend's addiction.

Davesprite was still around until recently, while Jadesprite got absorbed soon after her creation. Davesprite and John got to talk about their emotions more than Jade did. Mom's neglect of Rose is never dealt with compared to Bro's abuse of Dave etc. etc.

As for recs: maybe Princess Caroline from Bojack Horseman? And the Claire DeWitt book series. I can see how it's difficult to find stuff though.
