Re: Candy

The problem with Japanese (and sometimes Korean/Filipino/etc) sweets is they love "milk"-flavored candy and it is really something you have to have grown up eating because everyone I know who's tried it recoils from the taste. Even my Asian-American friends who were unfamiliar with it hated it. Hard, soft, gummy, it doesn't matter. It's bad.

Laima is far from the only spirit-filled chocolatier. There are plenty of US-based ones, and then tons of German/Austrian/French/Polish/Czech/Dutch ones. Had some great rum ones from Curacao.

I have incredibly odd tastebuds, so Japanese candy is really my thing. I think the lychee hard candy is one of those acquired tastes.

I've had other liquor filled chocolates, but I haven't found many others that have quite as much liquor as the Laima ones.

Christmastime is when we get random liquor filled chocolates from Costco, but they're not the same as Laima. I just like the gift set, it's a nice mix of different liquors.

Are there any you'd recommend trying?
