What they said.

OP

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen them specifically compared. It's just that when people talk about Steven Universe here, especially to criticize it, the things they say are often the same sorts of things people on other sites say about TTG. (The only TTG I've personally seen is a few clips from The Return of Slade, so for all I know the TTG criticism could be completely off the mark as well.)

P.S. That probably makes me sound like an asshole, but honestly, I only just now put together how little I really know about TTG. I was just thinking in terms of how people talk, here and elsewhere.

Chances are, the people critiquing TTG and the people critiquing SU on FS are not the same people. So if they're critiquing the same thing, chances are each show has fallen flat on whatever they are critiquing and has nothing to do with anyone comparing them.

Teen Titan Go is better though.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
+1. Teen Titans Go at least knows it's crap and doesn't take itself seriously.

Now if only Cartoon Network would learn that it's crap and no one wants it shoved down their throats.

I've never even seen Teen Titans Go! but I'd imagine they're different since they're different shows?

I understand what you mean, OP. And people saying that the direct comparison has never been made are missing the point... yeah - I've seen some people here talk about SU like it's more of a 1). kid's show (as opposed to a family show - I know, I know, adults who like cartoons throw out the 'family show/movie!!' excuse all the time to justify their interests, but, lbr, the fact is that SU clearly has a wider age range in mind than TTG) and 2). is bright and flashy and therefore somehow incapable of having arcs and character development alongside plot-and-moral-of-the-week episodes.

Sidenote that I do enjoy TTG occasionally, but it's the kind of show that you can stop in halfway through the episode, catch episodes out of order, etc, and you'll still have a lot of fun. SU is best enjoyed in order and by watching full episodes. It's also the kind of show that you have to invest in - the first few episodes are not indicative of the overall experience. This has some obvious negative consequences, but does not detract from it's quality as a show; and, clearly, mean that the show isn't for everyone. Neither format is better/worse, but acting like SU is comparable to TTG in these respects is ridic.

Huh?

Great gif tho.

I loved that scene since knowing Rebecca Sugar is an IZ fan, I'm about 90% sure it's a reference to https://49.media.tumblr.com/0126f9faabe0861e046028f8153565f1/tumblr_n9cbdew9031taibz9o1_500.gif

But yeah, I know what you mean "I don't like it because it's a mindless gag show with no plots and no character development and flat one note characters doing fart jokes!" .... Have... have you watched it? You don't have to LIKE it, but at least hate it for real reasons. "I didn't like the new Star Wars movies because of all the fornicating space lizards!" "........???"
