I've taken it for depression. It was ok? Actual anti-depressants worked a lot better, and all the research I've seen says that St. John's Wort doesn't actually contain enough of the plant to be effective. It's a placebo effect. (I AM NOT A DOCTOR TAKE EVERYTHING I SAY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT AND DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH)

Talk to your doctor, whether you take it or not, because just because it's over the counter doesn't mean it won't interact poorly with other medications or health issues, and they may have a better suggestion.
