The show 'Criminal Minds' has that, I think. Obviously a lot of the serial killers/rapists/etc they're after have been abused, but to balance that some of the main characters have been too. Hotch's dad was abusive, Morgan was sexually abused by a coach. All the leads have shitty pasts, to sort of make the point that your mother had, that just because your past was shitty, you don't have to be.

Unfortunately, CM doesn't really delve into its characters' lives often. Only when it might make for a good story. So I doubt it's worth watching 10 years worth of show for a handful of relevant episodes.
