I personally think that Anthy is just as a douchebag, if not more so than Touga or Akio.

Now, I havn't seen all of the series yet like the secret poster...but where do you get opinion from, may I ask? :O *curious* I havn't seen her do anything wrong yet aside from just being...you know....stuck as the rose bride or whatever.

It seemed to me that she was extremely passive-aggressive, manipulative, an attention whore, and just a straight-up bitch.

She tormented Akio and everyone (except Utena) with her indifference, as if being a rose bride was just a duty and nothing more even though others such as Saionji obviously considered her more than that.

Anthy pretended to be the ideal patriarchal figure- submissive, polite, constrained to her womanly role, but manipulated Utena somewhat into Akio's arms and made Nanami out to be the attacker. She also seems to do things that symbolically attack the duelists in their most vulnerable spots.

I couldn't talk about the rest without spoiling the series for you, but you get the gist, right? ^^;

I think I got it...I see what you mean.

I always saw her as sort of a robot. You know, pretty much physically UNABLE to have feelings untill utena or something has her real feelings come out of her. She seemed almost TOO dutiful to be anything but a living robot for a while. But I still get mad at her for a bit, because of the fact it hurts people.

I don't know. You can never tell when someone like Anthy is doing something honestly or is just a really good actor, but I always assume the latter, just because it makes more sense in the last arcs of the series. I thought she was a robot too, in the beginning, but in my opinion she didn't care for Utena until Anthy realized that Utena cared for Anthy for /her/ sake, not just the rose bride/power to revolutionize the world.

Hmm... manipulative and passive-aggressive, yes. Douchebag? Perhaps not.

I prefer to think of it as an opinion-type thing :P

I mean, I can see where you wouldn't think that she is a douchebag, but I have an extreme dislike of her.

Know what I want in my room? A huge poster of Anthy, smiling shyly in her school uniform. Maybe cuddling with Chuu-Chuu, or serving tea. And then with bold letters underneath stating "Love is a BITCH."

Personally, I think the entire cast of Utena is full of douchebags (Except maybe... Miki and Wakaba). They're all horrible people and incredibly fucked up, but that's what makes them appealing as characters. I'd never want to hang out with any of them... but I'd totally bang Akio in a heartbeat.

The story would have failed as a whole if the ending canon were different, though.

Original secret maker, please watch the rest of the series, all the way to the end, before you jump to conclusions about ships. One of the great things about this series IMO is that it isn't just about Meant 2 Be type ships.

Meh, I think that Miki and Wakaba are equally as fucked up as the rest of the cast, but in my interpretation of the series, those characters (as well as others) represent individual shortcomings, rather than failed revolutions of the world as a whole...

If the canon ending was Miki/Nanami, then I would have been like "hell yeah this is awesome best ending evah lololz :D" But yeah, I agree with you there.

Oh yes, definitely individual shortcomings, but they're not massive trainwrecks like most of the cast. I see them as being functionally normal (though really, the only fully well-adjusted character in the show is that Onion Prince of Wakaba's).

I know she grows up by the end of the series, but considering that the entire mess is pretty much her fault in the first place, all you can say is "Um, lady, it's about goddamn time you grow up and get a clue".

Nono. NO ONE can be as big of a douchebag as Akio. No one. Seriously. I think he's the only character in that entire series I seriously wanted to beat over the head with a Hammer of Bitchslap +666 (plus I wanted to castrate him with a piece of paper). I cheered for Anthy when she dumped his sorry ass and left.

Now, 'douchebag' wouldn't be the word to describe Anthy either, perse. 'heartless, manipulative, two-timing witch' would be a better one. Even 'the most ingenious character in the series, she managed to play EVERYONE. How many other characters can boast that?' XD

See, I thought that people who were malicious, arrogant, people with horrible personalities were douchebags, but I guess it would depend on your definition.

I don't. It's as easy as that. But the series was mostly about interpretation, wasn't it? You make your own revolution. You make your own opinions. I didn't see Anthy as arrogant, and I definitely saw Akio as being as such, and I suppose that is, though he was technically supposed to be my favorite character if my fandom/favorite character track record says anything, why I never liked him. Anthy let herself be walked all over, even trampled on, abused and neglected to eventually come out the winner - any 'arrogant' or even self-respecting person wouldn't have let themselves be treated as such.

Akio was one such person, but in the end, Anthy's passive manipulation won over Akio's aggressive one. And it made him look like a total idiot, a childish moron who was trapped within a school for eternity, waiting for his revolution.

Ah, I see. I wasn't trying to be condescending or anything, I was really just curious =O

No, it's alright. XD I was tired last night, so my comment probably came out a little more harsh than I had meant for it to.
