Re: Things you can't believe are considered "normal"

Drive throughs. You spend money driving to the chain, idle your car in the line to the windows, spend a shit ton of money on unhealthy, disgusting food, then drive back to work/home/wherever.

The idea that we're supposed to sit for more than seven hours a day, five days a week.

What I think is really weird is drive through liquor stores. Like, who thought that was a good idea??

Honestly I prefer drive throughs or take out or to go food. I hate eating in restaurants. I prefer eating at home or at work or wherever.

I dislike most fast food. But I have a weakness for Mcdonalds fries. I don't even know why. I just really like them.

I went to McDonalds once many years ago. It made me ill.

Most of their food makes me ill. I can't eat their nuggets even though I like them. But I'm usually fine with just fries.

I have a weakness for their fish sammiches (no tartar) and fries. I don't get them often, and my husband does not particularly care for giving money to McDonald's (totally understandable), but... on occasion... hell yes. Nom.

"The idea that we're supposed to sit for more than seven hours a day, five days a week."

THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS. Sitting in one place for longer than it would take to watch a typical movie = my idea of hell.

I don't know how things are situation where you are, but where I'm from, fast food restaurants are found between malls and shops. You don't expend enough extra gas to get there to really be worth considering. There's usually one or two places right on your path to wherever you're going to or coming from. One of the big draws is convenience.

Dollar/cheap stuff menus are also a thing. Unless $2.00US for a sandwich, side, and a free cup of water breaks your bank, I really can't call that a "shit ton" of money.

Yes, the food is unhealthy, but not everyone eats exclusively healthy food. Good on those who do, but there are those out there for whom unhealthy food is comfort food (or in my case, it was used as a reward when I was growing up, and I haven't kicked that particular habit all the way to the curb yet. I still give in once every couple of months).

The whole sitting thing, I have no dog in that race. I don't consider that "normal", even though most people nowadays do.

Convenience. The anon above me is correct in that a lot of fast-food places are positioned strategically; the Wendy's I usually go to (and I only ever go to Wendy's, mind, their spicy chicken is sublime) is literally just off a highway exit, even.

I feel like a big reason fast food is so popular in the US is because employees are overworked. 8-9 hours or more of bullshit work for little pay among the other ills of the American worker and by the time you're done you just don't feel like cooking, so it's easy to swing through a drive-through and pick up something from Shitburger's. And with a drive-through, you don't have to crawl outta your car until you get home.

Convenience. I'm usually going to or from something. I'm even more likely to have the dog in the car. Like hell I'm leaving her along for some asshole to bother. Drive through it is.

She gets a hamburger, no sauce or pickle.

when I used to work at Burger King we had a container of doggie treats next to the drive through window and we'd give them out when anyone drove up with a dog in their car.

what planet are you from that fast food is a "shit ton of money?" the whole point of fast food is that it is fast and cheap.

Re: Things you can't believe are considered "normal"

(Anonymous) 2016-02-07 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Fast and cheap in comparison to a restaurant meal, but in the long run quite a bit more expensive than if you'd cooked yourself. Like the people who buy a fast food lunch every day at work, 5 days a week almost all year-round. Even if you're buying more healthful items, you're gonna be out a lot more cash.

Are you kidding? I almost never get fast food because it's so expensive. I can cook enough food to feed myself for at least four days for the price of a single fast food meal.

I used to work at some fast food places and I can tell you they ALWAYS put the newest, or the dumbest, or the employee who speaks the least amount of the native language at the drive through window.
