tbf someone liking the older guy-younger girl dynamic doesn't mean they dislike the older girl-younger guy one. lots of people have an age difference kink

I don't think OP is stating an objection to anything, just that their own preference is vastly different from what people on here like, and it weirds them out.

As long as they're not getting on anyone's case about it, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. We all have our preferences and squicks, and they're not always logical or consistent.

it makes sense to me. we live in a patriarchal society in which old man have a lot of power in sexual encounters. it squicks me.

I prefer my ships without age gaps, but older man/much younger woman is also a big turnoff for me, so I feel you on that, anon. (I don't know how I'd feel about older woman/younger man since it so rarely comes up. I think if the gap is really big it's a squick no matter the genders, but if it's 10-15 years older woman/younger man doesn't bother me as much as the other way around? Still don't usually actively ship it though.)

I would call 10 years a large age gap myself. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'd describe it as such.

I'm in this other fan group where I feel it's even worse...but I never really felt like it was overwhelming here. As long as I remember, younger fans adoring older actors has been pretty common.

I like age-gaps in general so no judgement from me, though I don't have a younger man/older woman ship I'm into but frankly I think I just haven't found one that pings for me yet(never used to be into older guy/younger guy and then I found some I liked).

I like younger guys in fiction, and IRL, too. Honestly, I feel like the odd one out everywhere.

Random rec here, but I think one of the Bardic Voices books by Mercedes Lackey has an older woman/younger man... I can't remember which one, though. If anyone knows... I think it's literally the only book I've ever read with a pairing of that nature.

Since The Lark and The Wren are a young woman, older man and as far as I could tell, Robin and Kestrel were the same age.

Though now that you've mentioned it, I feel like I never run into older woman/younger guy pairings. I wonder which ones you're into. I could most likely get behind it, given the right characters and dynamic.

But I am also perfectly fine with younger woman/older man and older man/younger man, etc.

Not that I'll ship anything with an age difference, but it certainly isn't a deal-breaker.

Well, I adore Harry/Eggsy (Kingsman) so, even though it's not het, we're in this together? I'm trying to think of a het pairing like that that I like...oh!

Lip and Helene from 'Shameless' - he's a college student, she's a professor (though he doesn't take her classes). They're awesome, if a bit heartbreaking.

I like them both, it's just easier to find older man/younger woman potential pairings in most media. But I was all over Roslin/Apollo in the recent Battlestar Galactica, and I thought it was awesome that Slings and Arrows had a canon pairing.

I actually quite like that in canon.

But there isn't that much of it, or at least not in the things I watch. Let's see, Donna/Matt on Another World was one of my favorite couples, Pacey/Tamara on Dawson's Creek was interesting, but creepy, then there was White Palace, if I had liked Fish more on Ally McBeal, then Fish/Whipper would have been much better. I've sometimes gone looking for fic for non-canon couples and haven't had much luck.

I think I have one pairing I'm really into that's older woman/younger man. I'm not really into age differences in romance, but I like the idea of an older woman with a somewhat younger guy.

Oh yeah, and in manga stuff, I really like older bottoms, but that's m/m romance.

Only one out of three of my RP Silmarils is with an older man. That's the sister who married Maglor. Thing is, I don't really make an issue of their ages. Kizár (the fire silmaril) loves living the role of "younger" sister, only showing her age when she has useful knowledge about something.

Interesting. I feel like this comm has a strong distaste for het in general and a condescending attitude towards those who enjoy male-dominant het.
