Re: Horror video game recs?

The staples are the Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Fatal Frame series. I find all of them enjoyable for different reasons so I would definitely recommend checking all of them out.

Alan Wake is a really great character-focused psychological horror game. It's also got an innovative, fun combat system (with the use of light being necessary as well as just weapons). The plot is one of the best I've seen in a horror game in quite a while.

Siren and Siren 2 are also on the creepy side. Its main focus is avoiding enemies rather than fighting them, so it's got a lot of really high-tension moments that involve trying to sneak past the Shibito without being caught.

Amnesia and its sequel are similar when it comes to the idea of hiding rather than fighting. I had a great deal of fun watching my guy friend try to play through those without freaking out (he didn't succeed).

Among the Sleep is nice and short but it's got a great twist at the ending.

I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting, but those are the ones that come to mind right off the bat!
