I love Magnolia. It was sort of talked about when it came out, but it seems like no-one knows about it anymore. Only film i actually like Tom Cruise in.

I think I saw this a long ass time ago and remember being surprised at how much it didn't suck in comparison to what I expected from the trailers...

Magnolia is one of my very favorite movies, but I haven't been able to watch it since PSH died

Magnolia is a fantastic movie, with great performances all around. I feel like it was definitely ahead of its time, with Babel and Crash both utilizing the same, multiple-thread storyline that comes together - except I'd still argue that Magnolia did it more effectively and powerfully.

I think it's an utterly unique film, and yes, it convinced me that Tom Cruise can act - most of the time, he just doesn't bother to do so. And Julianne Moore was excellent, and someone else already mentioned Philip Seymour Hoffman. William H Macy and John C Reilly were also amazing in their roles.

I cannot think of an actor in that film who did not hit it out of the ballpark, and all of those storylines resonated with me in sometimes intensely painful and different ways, and yet they managed to bring them to some bizarre, mostly-satisfying conclusion. I think it's brilliant! And now I'm going to have to watch it again.
