Right now, to a friend: In 15 years time, you'll probably regret separating with your husband over that.

Over what, out of curiosity?

Eh, weed basically. Though it's not quite so simple, it's also partly that he was spending too much out of their budget (on it).

And yeah, that sucks, but it seems like an issue you could work out. Especially s they've got two kids (one under a year).

With you on this, that seems pretty stupid to leave your husband over. Maybe it's just the last straw?

Maybe, of course I do not know the intimate workings of their marriage. But they always seemed a good couple, he's a great dad (about the right combo of loving but still strict), and they seemed to like each other enough to have another baby recently.

I mean, I'd say his only big flaw except for the weed is he's a bit boring.

It depends on the level he's using? If he's addicted to the point that it is interfering with his life then I can understand it. Or if it is making it impossible to have money for things they actually need.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

Pretty much. I'd say that weed is the same as alcohol in my mind. Casual or occasional use isn't a problem. But addiction is, and when it is interfering with life then it has reached a point where it is a problem.

It's the money thing. They don't have a high income, and it was taking chunks out of their budget. But then, you know, having two separate residences because you're separating will also be a chunk out of your budget.

Oh lordy, yes it will be. And then there's shared custody, child support, splitting up possessions, maybe attorney's fees. She ain't seen nothing yet.

Eh, I don't know. The weed part would annoy me, but hurting the family's finances for any reason that's purely recreational and not a necessity doesn't demonstrate good judgement. It seems like a minor thing, but being married to a person who's an idiot with money can blow up in your face. If it was my partner and they refused to come to their senses, I'd want to cut my losses and leave, too.

True, though it must be said that when the met they both used it (not sure if she still does), but it's still sort of unfair to expect a person to stop doing something they were doing when you met. I mean, you might want them to, but these things rarely end well.
