I really wish I could tell my parents that I'm bi and that every time they say something offensive about LGTBQ people they are talking about me too and that it hurts. But considering I'm currently living at home that would be a bad idea.

I really hope you get the chance to say this to them one day. My mom already knew I was bi, and said some really thoughtless things about gay people in general. Being able to look at her and say "You do realize that every time you say something like that you're actually talking about me too, right?" felt really, really good.

Unfortunately, this might not be the case with you. I'm very fortunate in that my mom's not a bad or hateful person, just uninformed sometimes, and I wasn't living with her at the time. We still have a very good relationship, which might not be the case with you and your parents.

My parents are very traditional types so I understand. I have decided that I will never tell them I'm bi until when/if I have a girlfriend, making money and live away from home. Best of luck to you.

I wish I could tell the assistant manager at my office that she's unnecessarily abrasive, to the point where new hires consistently think she hates them.

Re: Things you wish you could say to people

I'm an assistant manager... is there any chance she doesn't know that's what she's doing? I try being friendly but I tend to get jumpy if I'm distracted, and I worry I come across as exactly this!

My dearly beloved cousin. You do not know a girl who's son got vaccinated and immediately developed autism. No. That's not a thing. And even if it was, your youngest kid is five. They are too old to 'develop' autism. VACCINATE YOUR DAMN KIDS.

I wish I could tell two people at work, regarding this other coworker whom they see as an idiot and obstacle to their plans:

When I encouraged you to approach her gently and gave you information about her which could allow you to empathize with her position, I was not telling you this because I am a naive Pollyanna who just wants you to be nice to her. I was giving you the strategy that would be most affective in getting her on your side. You didn't listen to me, and now you've fucked up your chances of ever getting her approval on this project, and you will never get what you want, because you insisted on doing things your way and coming at her aggressively.

You dismissed my advice out of hand because you see me as a slightly dim, harmless, naive sweetheart, when I am not any of those things. I seem that way because I use that as a survival strategy in life. I have no enemies, I offer empathy and a listening ear to everyone because it's easy for me to see all sides, and I am much better at reading people than you give me credit for. Being sweet and understanding was the best way of getting her to do what you want, and now that door is closed.

And I can't tell you any of this because then you'll know that when I'm gentle and understanding with you, I'm not necessarily being genuine, and that I know you to be two people I have to be careful not to make enemies with.

Dear bro,
You are an entitled, self-centered jackass. Stop saying you'll do shit you never do. That's worse than just refusing to do it. Stand up to your wife once in a while. Grow a spine. Follow through on the shit you talk about. Work on your priorities. Take 5 minutes to think about someone other than yourself and your little family. Try calling to ask how our lives are and not only when you want something.

Also, stop just assuming I have time for you or that I want to be around you. Go away.

Love,
Me

Right now, to a friend: In 15 years time, you'll probably regret separating with your husband over that.

I wish I could tell my mother that the way she handled the custody arrangement with my father caused me immense pain and probably contributed significantly to me being kind of fucked up as an adult. I wish I could tell her that every single time he had to leave me with her it left me desolate, and I internalized that desolation and helplessness in the way only a child of three, or five, or seven can internalize something.

I wish I could tell her that I know she spent his child support payments on beer and cigarettes every month, all the while telling me that things like Oreos for my lunch and two whole pieces of sandwich meat for my sandwich were too expensive.

I wish I could ask her what the hell kind of person would do a thing like that. I wish I could make her face the fact that, for all she sees herself as a thoughtful and giving person, she was selfish to the point of cruelty in how she raised her child.

Side note: Given the men's custody rights conversation going on elsewhere in the comments, I feel the need to clarify that none of this is in any way intended to make some kind of a point about men's custody rights.

To one of the resource teachers I work with, who is a living, breathing example of an adult on the autistic spectrum: "Please just stop talking to me." She's not a bad person but dear sweet jesus, she doesn't know when to stop talking. Something that takes two sentences to say, she needs 15 minutes. It doesn't help that she reminds me of an adult family member who is also ASD and whom I don't deal with very well.

I'd also like to tell my step father to fuck off when he "teases" me. He's a fucking asshole, always has been always will be. The only that stops me is that it would upset my mother quite a bit.

I'd like to tell my uncle that he's an idiot if he really believes that Obama's going to declare martial law so that he can remain in power forever. And also that if he thinks Trump's going to save the country then I have a bridge to sell him in Brooklyn.

I wish I could tell a friend of mine that I think she's incredibly foolish to stay with her husband, and that all the excuses she makes for his dickish, controlling behavior is bullshit and fooling nobody but herself, that she should drain their bank account, take the kids and make a run for it because he strikes me as the sort of man who's likely to snap, select an appropriate weapon from his massive gun collection and murder them all if he finds out. I wish I could tell her that's likely dooming her son to grow up an emotionally stunted woman-hater like his father, and leaving her daughter vulnerable to believing that this is how all men and relationships are-- that women need to sacrifice everything and never dare expect affection, help or loyalty in return.

But she'd never listen and it would destroy our friendship and I don't want her to think she can't count on me when (not if, WHEN) the shit hits the fan. If I believed in a god, I'd pray that she comes to her senses or her husband drops dead of a stroke or something before anything happens.

I wish I could just explain to my landlady that she's emotionally abusive to me (and apparently other people), and acts in ways that really make me think that she has narcissistic personality disorder. I want to get her to understand how it's harmful that she views herself so high above other people, that when someone treats her like an equal, she perceives that as an insult. I want to explain why it's bad that she doesn't listen to anyone, that she thinks she's always right about everything, and it's honestly become a limiting thing for her, because she's ignoring a lot of valid points, and often making things more difficult for herself AND other people.

I want her to understand that people would actually think more highly of her, if she could ever admit to having flaws, or making mistakes, or if she could APOLOGISE. I want to instruct her to stop blaming other people for her own mistakes. I want to explain that the reason she has a hard time maintaining good relations is that whenever she fucks up in front of someone, she turns it around by "punishing" the other person for having witnessed her fuck-up. This, understandably, drives people away.

I wanna tell her that she should stop lying all the time. I wanna explain that her divide-and-conquer approach to working with people makes us not trust her as soon as we compare notes a bit, and they don't match up.

I wish I could tell her that she should care more about ACTUALLY ACTING GOOD, as opposed to putting up a public, gilded front of doing that. She doesn't care about how people actually feel, she just wants to look good from a distance. I also kinda want to tell her that she should stop flaunting her educational and economical status around, expecting respect and awe just based on those. Please, woman, start actually BEHAVING in a way that makes me wanna respect you.

Also, you're my landlady, not my fairytale evil stepmother. Stop sticking your nose into my life. It's none of your business as long as I don't bring in pets, or smoke indoors, or damage the apartment somehow.

And stop blaming me for losing other tenants. The first one was your own fucking fault for outright lying to her about the quality of the apartment in the first place. *I* was the one thing she would have LIKED about living there. We're still in contact occasionally. The other one, I'm not entirely sure why she left, but it sure as hell wasn't my fault. I'm pretty sure you made too big promises again. It's a nice house if you like that type of living, but it's not God's gift to humanity. There's plenty of reasons someone might not wanna live in that room, starting with the fact that it was too small for her furniture to fit, and also you'd apparently promised that the room's door could be locked, which turned out untrue.

And stop blaming my "bad attitude" whenever I, as politely as possible, point out that you're either downright trying to cheat me into paying YOUR bills, or have otherwise fucked up, or changed our agreement without telling me, or withhold information I need, for no apparent reason.
