Re: Trans headcanons

If someone just says a character is trans but don't say what gender, I assume it means they think the character transitioned to the gender they are in canon. Right now that's what's more common when the person specifies the gender, e.g. "[canonically male character] is a trans man."

A few years ago the opposite seemed more common, where people would headcanon that characters were trans but hadn't transitioned yet and were still presenting as their assigned gender. I'm glad this seems to be disappearing in favor of the above scenario, since it doesn't rely on gender stereotyping. Now the main problem with post-transition headcanons is the trend of picking the most feminine-looking male characters in a fandom as the trans guys and the most masculine-looking female characters as trans girls.
