You know, I'm not crazy about Cassie Clare, but in this case many elements sound painfully generic. Secret world in modern society fighting monsters? Fight demons using magical weapons imbued with special power? Brought in by sexy member of the opposite sex?
That's like every anime ever.

Though I do admit, there seem to be a LOT of structural similarities, at least based on Exhibit 3. So eh. Even some of the other stuff, like having their powers revealed when mother is kidnapped, or mysterious neighbor who actually Knows Stuff. That's really generic.
