Worse than I could have imagined.
(Anonymous) 2016-02-11 04:32 am (UTC)(link)For some reason I initially felt disinclined to believe what you were saying about Sherrilyn Kenyon. I thought maybe you were just trying to derail the conversation about Claire's (much debated) plagiarism. So I dug up Kenyon's article. And I am just speechless. I...holy shit. I'm sorry I doubted you.
A few direct quotes for anyone interested in seeing the insanity for themselves:
"As Angel becomes more involved with Buffy, we see in him a dramatic change where he becomes weaker while she grows stronger. When he finally succumbs to her and they sleep together, I believe it isn’t so much his soul leaving him that turns him into Angelus as it is Angel seeing the writing on the wall and knowing that if something doesn’t change instantly, he will be as dead from her testosterone-drain-age as a vampire victim is from blood loss."
"Now that Spike no longer has balls, it begs the question: who will be next? I thought for a minute Willow might have them, but, as we saw, Buffy the Testosterone-Sucking Vampire, with the help of her emasculated Xander, defeated her."
"Even Riley Finn succumbed to her gonad-feeding frenzy."
And THE WHOLE ARTICLE is like this. I don't...I can't...wow.

That's like every anime ever.
Though I do admit, there seem to be a LOT of structural similarities, at least based on Exhibit 3. So eh. Even some of the other stuff, like having their powers revealed when mother is kidnapped, or mysterious neighbor who actually Knows Stuff. That's really generic.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-11 02:50 am (UTC)(link)Pffft haha "distressed fans." Those weren't your fans, dear, those were just Cassie Claire's hatedom. And yeah, those reasons for suing are ridiculous. They are literally tropes, like that other person in the article said. Neither of these writers is original at all.
Re: Cassie Clare
Both Dark-Hunter and Shadowhunter books, it says, “are about an elite band of warriors that must protect the human world from the unseen paranormal threat that seeks to destroy humans as they go about their daily lives”.
Describes like a million books. Off the top of my head, Vicki Pettersson's Signs of the Zodiac series fits the bill.

Though, to be a little fairer, some of the similarities listed in the full report do actually build up. There are a lot of them, and I guess it's a toss-up between them both being tropey up the wazoo, and there being some genuine plagiarism here.
