Re: Childhood/teenage favorite fantasy worlds
(Anonymous) 2016-02-11 02:02 am (UTC)(link)I would make up my own magic girl team based really closely on Sailor Moon. I added extra magic girls, and had spreadsheets of names, powers, colors, nicknames, etc. because I was a dork.
As an adult, I think the Pern worldbuilding is still interesting but I am far more aware of the unfortunate parts of McCaffery's writing and worldbuilding. It's easy enough to handwave it or fix it so I still think it's fun to play in her sandbox.
Sailor Moon would be great in that you'd have a core of amazing friends and cool powers. I haven't touched the fandom in years but I'm idly considering buying the rereleased Sailor Moon sets that are coming out.
Mostly, I wish I'd gotten into Tolkien and Narnia sooner. Only touched a bit of Narnia and I liked to imagine myself going through a door to a magical world but it was never actually Narnia (as I hadn't read the book but only saw the BBC movie). And I was never obsessed over it.
