I was just reading an article about this. During the recession, employers could afford to get picky because there were a lot more people looking for work than there were jobs, including a lot of experienced people who had been laid off and were willing to take anything. Now that unemployment is going down, it's causing problems on both sides because employers haven't scaled back their requirements even though there are fewer experienced workers available and willing to take low-level positions. The less experienced people who are left don't qualify for the jobs and employers can't fill vacancies they need filled. It's dumb.

I say, apply for these jobs anyway. If you get an interview, make the case that you can do it (don't talk shit about the company being too picky, just say you are capable of this).
