This is sadly true. I own a few meters shoreline and we pick plastic and garbage there every year and have done so for years. Much of it of foreign and industrial origin. Even sadder is it to think that it's just the tip of the iceberg that get washed ashore: most of it sink or is absorbed and no-one ever sees it. Everyone should cry over this.

SA I should add that I live in one of the least populated areas in the world: the arctic. Most people probably think it would be pristine here, but they need to think again. It's cleaner than by cities and in warmer climates, but natural fish and bird populations are dying here too. Not from over-fishing and hunting any more, but from various pollutions.
