I find it condescending at best, and sometimes it comes off as infantilizing. It's like the one character doesn't trust the other to speak up about what they don't like, or that it's not a relationship between equals, no matter the age difference.

Where's the fun in writing an unusual relationship if you're not gonna explore the problems and oddities that come with it?

There can be plenty of problems without one character treating the other like shit.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
TIL being extra considerate with a partner is equal to treating them like shit

Being considerate is one thing. Treating them like they're a particularly stupid child is something else entirely.

Or did you miss the part where I mentioned infantilization?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
The part about infantilization was your own projection entirely. There's a difference between being childish and being inexperienced.

This. It's ridiculous. Character A said 'fuck me through the mattress!!! Now!' and then character B spends the next three pages asking if they're sure, if they're okay, is this okay, that okay...OMG.

Hate it.

Y'know usually the reason one is cautious with their partner and asks a lot of questions is because said partner is new to relationships or new to that particular relationship.

Rolling my eyes at the thought of a first-timer or better yet, a complete virgin who demands to be "fucked through the mattress" and is immediately able to handle that.

Rolling my eyes at one partner deciding they know better what the other one wants.

There's 'cautious' and then, there is as the original comment i replied to said, 'infantalizing'.

I was referring to a dynamic with an abundance of communication while you're ranting about one with a partner blatantly ignoring another's wishes?? Yeesh

I know it's easy to take a thing you don't dig and strawman it into something tedious and borderline abusive just to support some nonsense point you're trying to make but it does not make for a good discussion

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
Anon, the only one strawmanning things is you. Is it really that hard to admit most people just can't pull off this trope?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
I love how anon is accusing you two of strawmanning when they're doing it themselves. Like, I really love this trope, but it's not like Sturgeons Law doesn't apply here.

Right?

I think this is the same anon who jumps on almost any argument I make here and basically accuses me of being the most vile, hateful, ignorant and malicious person ever.

I dunno - it seems to be a thing.
