I'd like to rewatch this series because the first time I saw it, I didn't understand half of what was going on. The military lingo was hard for me to grasp and because everyone had the same hair and uniform, I couldn't keep track of the cast at all. I frequently had no idea who was speaking in any given scene.

S!B People can't seem to believe it might be difficult for someone who isn't faceblind (and I'm not!) to tell different people apart.

The recent influx of Grey's secrets has inspired me to admit:
I'm mystified by people who can bingewatch this show. I tried at the start of 2015, but each episode is so emotionally draining that I stopped early season 3. Yet I know so many people IRL who raced through seasons on Netflix in a matter of months. I like it well enough & would like to finish one day. I just don't understand how people can power through it.

b!s: I own the first three seasons on DVD and was watching a disc a night in my efforts last year.

I've seen lots of people talking about how obnoxious she is. Maybe part of the problem is that so many of them frame it the way you do - "No one but me talks about this!!!" - which isn't really conducive to discussion.

I never made it beyond the first season of this show because absolutely every character, minus a few kids, was fucking awful. I don't get it but I suppose people pick their favorites among a cast of terrible people, but I don't think I could handle a fandom in a show like this even if I enjoyed the show, which I decidedly did not. The character in question seriously disturbed me, I can't wrap my head around why anyone would give someone like that the hero treatment.

Huh, that's interesting.

I have a ship with a 20+ year age gap. I write the older party as super awkward and conscious of the fact so they're almost comically gentle with the younger party and constantly asking if they're okay. I just think it's cute?? Didn't realize there could be a creepy undertone to that whole business.

Shouldn't really be a secret, OP, that is disturbing. I think media has gotten MAYBE a little better about it but it still awful about portraying rape and abuse as humorous when the victims are male. Hell, even prison rape is treated as a hilarious joke, let alone when women are the rapists/abusers.

Of course, I also don't think it's necessary to compare, both things can be disturbing.

I understand you. I'm fed up with the concept of "perfect, holy family" too, because of personal reasons.

There are ok families, there are horrible ones. You can get along with all members of it, none of it or just a few of it. Like with all groups it depends on the people gathered in it. And I hate the naive idea that something has to be perfect just because it wears the label "family."

And if the fandom you mentioned makes you uncomfortable, avoid it. I don't think you're weird just because the idea of family weirds you out, especially if it is as artifically constructed as in the fandom you've mentioned.
