I hate to break it to you, but this place isn't much better.

IDK, I was in that thread and I think for me, a lot of it was me reacting defensively because that person was purposefully trying to shit all over people trying to mourn Bowie, and that's not OK. I can't stress enough that I don't ACTUALLY think that adult men have any business sleeping with 15 year old girls. But there was a lot going on in that thread and I think a lot of was mostly anger because people were trying to be upset at the loss of an icon (Which he was, things he did that were Not Good do not erase all the things that were), and they were being attacked for it.

Oh man, I just skimmed your comment earlier but now that I took the time to read it... Bowie did not know the age of the girl he slept with, she had a fake ID, she pursued him, it was a one time thing and the girl treasures the experience. You cannot question her experience with him when she not only actively pursued and acted on it, but also enjoyed it.

I don't know what Chris Brown did (but fuck him, he's a piece of shit anyway for what he did to Rihanna), but Polanski knew that girl he raped was underage, and then there's the whole part about it being rape even without calling the girl's age in to question, and Woody Allen also went after a minor and raped her too. None of the situations I described were anything like the situation with Bowie.

Was there ever confirmation that she was using a fake ID? I remember looking for it when that argument was going around and I was hoping someone had a source (Since I do think that changes things considerably), because I didn't see it in the article (Although I was also a bit shaken that day so I might have missed it).

The second half of that statement is also why I am uncomfortable with the whole situation. I think the age of consent is 16-18 for a reason, and I'm not at all in favor of lowering it, but as an adult, she looks back on this experience and is THRILLED and while I would be pissed if it was my kid, I am massively uncomfortable with telling a grown woman 'no you just don't understand your own experience and I get to define it for you.'

You know, this is so interesting given what was it, about a week ago we had an anon in General Discussion talking about how she had to convince her mother that what she went through as a young woman was rape, and everyone pointed out that it wasn't her business.

The young woman in question in this secret is now a grown-ass adult. She says it wasn't rape. Here. Now. In the present day. She is not some little girl who has been scared into staying silent until now. She wanted her first experience to be with Bowie, and she was satisfied with it.

Why are you okay with insisting something bad happened to her, when in her opinion, it wasn't?
