I hate to break it to you, but this place isn't much better.
A few weeks ago right when Bowie had passed away, I saw sooooo many people here defend him in the same way and paint anybody who had a promblem with it as a crazy emotional sjw.
:/

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
the person who brought it up was deliberately trying to hurt people in their grief. they were a garbage person. don't defend them, you piece of shit.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Well somebodys grumpy lol. If you were somehow hoping to change my mind, calling me "a piece of shit" literally ruined any chances of that.
Go take a nap.

I was that secrets OP. I'm not this secrets OP.

And I submitted that secret before he died, I'm really sorry about the terrible fucking timing it ended up being posted, I should have told Case not to post it. Sorry!

I think the time and way that this has been brought up has been distasteful, but I don't think "grief" over a celebrity is quite that delicate an issue. I was a big fan of his but come on.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Not everyone is the same as you. You don't get to dictate how much grief people feel.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think the problem there just might have had something to do with 'right when Bowie passed away'. Grief makes people irrational and defensive, who knew?

That was one of the few times FS left me at a loss for words. One of them actually said they wished they were lucky enough to be raped.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I know right? And already somebody's gotten mad at me for bringing it up lol.

I didn't say anything at the time because I knew I would get dogpiled and screamed at, but ugh. As someone who's a child abuse victim, and has friends who have suffered from child sexual abuse, that thread literally made me sick and I'm now kinda wary of a few users here.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember that thread, did they actually say that they wished "they were lucky enough to be raped"? Or did they say that they wish they had been able to do the same thing that the woman Bowie "raped" did? (Because the woman herself doesn't classify it has rape, even now, twenty(?) years later.)

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-02-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
They pretty much said that they wished they were able to sleep with Bowie back then and if they were a teenager then, they'd probably do what that one groupie did, something along those lines.

Man, this. When I was 16, had I been able to something similar that resulted in me and Hugh Jackman? Oh hell YES I would have done it.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-02-13 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much, I feel this way about Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt... and Brendan Fraser back in 1999 when I just turned into a teen.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
My whole problem with this discussion is that I get where a lot of this comes from...but for those of us who did actually do the groupie thing and screwed musicians, it's hard to see it in this 'horrible OMG light'.

It's nearly 30 years later and I don't look back at any of that as rape. Stupid? Yes. Legally statutory? Yes. Was I of the age of consent where I lived? No. Rape? Uh - maybe I should consider myself the rapist by deception as I probably lied about my age just for the sole purpose of getting backstage to have sex with them. (Yes, I was dumb kid and I'm lucky to have avoided STDs or other horrible consequences! At the time they were hot and being able to say you banged the lead singer of such-and-such hair band was kind of a mark of pride).

Did these musicians know my real age? Ehhh, maybe? As I said, I lied about it, but I'm sure they knew that was a possibility. It wasn't something that got talked much about tbh. Like maybe in a joking way a roadie would ask, 'You sure you're 18? Hah hah...' in a kind of offhand manner (and then you'd just flash a little boob or - if one was hot enough - go for a handy). Ugh - it was the 80's.

Thing is - it's not like I don't know the other side of things. When I was 15 my 17yo boyfriend slipped me LSD (I'd never even smoked pot - I'd maybe had a beer once - it fucked me up) - and had sex with me. And to this day I still don't know if his friend had sex with me as well (I think so? I know he was in the room). That boyfriend and I had had consensual sex before that, and yet I absolutely know that what he did was rape. No question about it.

So, I'm no stranger to what rape really is... but everything that happened with these musicians was something I went after, wanted and consented to. So, nothing I've read about the girl Bowie slept with says she considers it anything other than just stupid sex she had when she was 16. That's where I have a problem with people getting all up in arms about this, and acting like this was OMG the worst?!!

IDK, I was in that thread and I think for me, a lot of it was me reacting defensively because that person was purposefully trying to shit all over people trying to mourn Bowie, and that's not OK. I can't stress enough that I don't ACTUALLY think that adult men have any business sleeping with 15 year old girls. But there was a lot going on in that thread and I think a lot of was mostly anger because people were trying to be upset at the loss of an icon (Which he was, things he did that were Not Good do not erase all the things that were), and they were being attacked for it.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well I can understand some of that and I guess it makes sense.
But I still saw a lot of people attacking anyone who dared to question Bowie, even if they were polite about it and/or were sexual assault victims themselves. And I've seen even more of this behavior on other sites and it jus really rubs me the wrong way.

Without going back and reading through the whole thread myself, I'm asking if you think people were actually "attacking", because the "even if they were polite about it and/or were sexual assault victims themselves" leads me to believe that they were disagreeing, or offering an alternate opinion. I'm hoping that you don't mean that disagreement = attacking.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think disagreeing with someone=attacking obviously. -__-
I just remember that the pro-Bowie side being pretty aggressive and dismissive about other people's different opinions.

I remember at least one sexual assault victim siding with Bowie and the girl as well, though, so I know it wasn't necessarily a case of 'Us vs. Them.' And actually if I remember, there were quite a few polite disagreements going on, it seemed to mostly be 'BOWIE IS A RAPIST AND YOU ARE ALL SICK' anon who got the anger.

(Please please please correct me if I'm wrong)

I'm a CSA survivor (though I didn't post in the original wank, the worst of it was over by the time I saw it), and I think that comparing this (a 15-year-old who presented herself as an adult, actively pursued sex with an adult, and who has never indicated even a moment of unhappiness with what happened) to Ronan Polanski (violent rapist) or suchlike is about five million miles from okay.

She should've seduced Bowie in Canada--our age of consent was 14 until 2008, when it was raised to 16.

Out of curiosity I googled what was going on in England at the time this all went down and there was actually a lot of call to lower the age of consent from 16 to 14 at the time, and I know there's at least one or two Scandinavian countries where it's STILL 14 or 15.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure age of consent doesn't work that way in a lot of European countries. Age of consent might be 14, but that's only for two people under the age of whatever the "adult" age is - an adult having sex with a 14 year old is illegal as well in many cases.

This is likely true! I am American, and I've never been off this continent, so it's not something I have much knowledge about.
