Well I can understand some of that and I guess it makes sense.
But I still saw a lot of people attacking anyone who dared to question Bowie, even if they were polite about it and/or were sexual assault victims themselves. And I've seen even more of this behavior on other sites and it jus really rubs me the wrong way.

Without going back and reading through the whole thread myself, I'm asking if you think people were actually "attacking", because the "even if they were polite about it and/or were sexual assault victims themselves" leads me to believe that they were disagreeing, or offering an alternate opinion. I'm hoping that you don't mean that disagreement = attacking.

I don't think disagreeing with someone=attacking obviously. -__-
I just remember that the pro-Bowie side being pretty aggressive and dismissive about other people's different opinions.

I remember at least one sexual assault victim siding with Bowie and the girl as well, though, so I know it wasn't necessarily a case of 'Us vs. Them.' And actually if I remember, there were quite a few polite disagreements going on, it seemed to mostly be 'BOWIE IS A RAPIST AND YOU ARE ALL SICK' anon who got the anger.

(Please please please correct me if I'm wrong)

I'm a CSA survivor (though I didn't post in the original wank, the worst of it was over by the time I saw it), and I think that comparing this (a 15-year-old who presented herself as an adult, actively pursued sex with an adult, and who has never indicated even a moment of unhappiness with what happened) to Ronan Polanski (violent rapist) or suchlike is about five million miles from okay.

Yeah, I think even if you label this as statutory rape, even if the girl herself labeled it as statutory rape, there's quite a bit of a difference between an adult having sex with a fifteen year old who is not legally capable of consent but otherwise appears consenting, and forcibly drugging and raping a thirteen year old.

Not as much as you'd think. Don't cling to this as some kind of rationale. It's all pretty fucking disgusting. At least Peter Yarrow had the decency to apologize profusely for his misdeeds, unlike Roman Polanski.

I don't know who Peter Yarrow is, and I'm not saying that knowingly sleeping with a fifteen year old isn't a special kind of disgusting, because it is. I'm only saying that it's not the same as what Polanski did. Punching someone is bad. Hitting someone with a bat is also bad. One of them is slightly more bad than the other.

Peter Yarrow is the Peter of Peter, Paul, and Mary (American folk music trio from the '50s and '60s).
