But you asked nicely so here's my reasoning:
-She's very feminine in presentation (Tumblr hates tomboys lately)
-She easily represents a common female archetype - the mother, with a flavor of Yamato Nadeshiko and Earth Mother. This is good because then any masculine traits she has don't make her a dreaded "typical tomboy" but instead she becomes "subversive."
-It's suggested that she has a wise and/or scheming side to her, and Tumblr loves the idea of feminine women actually being in control of every situation at all times. I know this one sounds really bizarre but I can't count the amount of times I've seen someone try to make the argument that this one Feminine Female character is actually a genius manipulator. It's sort of a glorification of the Feminine Wiles/Femme Fatale trope. It's backwards as fuq but that's for another time.
-She's easily read as gay
-But more than that, her sexuality is only shown through dominating acts, like the boob-grabbing. Her being gay doesn't make her vulnerable or submissive. Tumblr has a big boner for dominant women lately, especially if they're feminine because then it's "subversive."
-She a perv, and every liberal person on the internet right now needs everyone to know how perverted they are too
-The most mature, womanly, least infantalized, etc. What's the average age of a Love Live fan like 31?
-She has a the biggest boobs and is drawn with a noticeably thicker frame than the other girls, making her ripe for chubby headcanons and art, and the kind of projection you'd expect from Tumblr. She also just has a light, bubbly personality, and these characters are always the ones that get drawn as fat. IDK why.
DISCLAMER: (This isn't directed at you badass_tiger just people who might be reading.) I haven't watched Love Live. I really don't want to. But based on what I've seen said about the characters, and the awful fanart, and the kind of people who seem to gravitate toward Nozomi in general, this is the impression I get. If your fandom experiences vastly contradict mine, first of all you're lucky, and second don't yell at me for generalizing this is just what I see everyday. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)I just got out of a screening of Love Live! the movie, which was my first time watching it. I didn't really see Nozomi do anything like this that qualifies as assault in the movie, so how common is it in the series?

Maybe I just hang out in the worst ring of Tumblr Hell possible, but I see this thinking all of the time.
