I can see why you'd feel that. When I read the book in no way shape or form did Carrie seem like the bad guy. She was absolutely the victim.

It's a very Stephen King horror, I think. Subtle, horrifying in ways you don't expect. Certainly with the book, it stayed with me and still haunts me to this day.

She was absolutely the victim WHO KILLED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. Let's not leave that last clause off there, because I'm pretty sure the families of those other kids feel that their late children were also at least a little victimized, when they were murdered and all.

And that's what makes it, as someone above said, a tragedy. It didn't have to turn out that way. If any of a hundred things had gone just a little differently, Carrie's power could have been something beautiful and amazing. Instead, she and her entire class died horribly, screaming in terror.
