It certainly makes everything a lot more tedious and boring.
Also I'm getting really bummed out when i see readers getting angry at creators, saying they must believe something that a character has said or done. Demanding characters be preached at/punished/admonished immediately in universe (uh maybe give it some time? its a story not a sermon)
i keep seeing creators putting disclaimers on their work "these characters do not reflect my views"
it's really weird and stressful. it makes for dull and stifled stories.

Oh yeah. As a writer this bothers me the most. Not only is it paranoia fuel but it also makes me annoyed. Why should I have to put a disclaimer on my work saying I don't really think what my antagonist, or the town bigot is saying? It shouldn't be necessary.

The default should be that people assume that the authors are just writing characters unless there is very strong evidence to the contrary.

Like geez tumblr just because some of y'all write fics that turn into heavy handed lectures about social issues doesn't mean all of us like to write secret author tracts.

exactly! its boring to write too!
I am NOT my characters and sometimes i want to write really flawed people. and maybe i don't want them to be punished by the universe, maybe i want them to be okay
