Re: Weird and/or unpopular reasons you won't read/watch certain things

Same here. Especially if the show obviously thinks unlikable = interesting. It can be interesting, that's why I liked Mad Men, but I feel like Mad Men also made an effort to really flesh out the likable and unlikable sides of characters, as did similar shows (and movies and books). Others seem to want us to just like unlikable characters because they aren't likable and that makes it edgy. They may have a Freudian reason for being unlikable, but you've gotta have more to your characters than being horrible to everyone ever because their boyfriend left them or their father always missed their dance recitals. Make it more interesting than that.

Yup. Although, funnily I really like villains most of the time. But only when the show or movie clearly knows they are villains and we aren't supposed to root for them. And when the heroes are just as bad but because they are the designated heroes we're supposed to care about them then I'm out. Or shows like Breaking Bad or the Sopranos where just everyone is unlikeable and there are no heroes.

Or the reverse, where the character is clearly supposed to be "relatable," but they're constantly smacked down in ways that result in the rape, murder, or rape and murder of innocent people around them to show that this setting is dark and edgy and idealistic characters will be forced to become assholes in order to accomplish anything.

This was, for me, basically the last seasons of Torchwood and Angel. :/ I actually loved both shows, but... I hated the direction both shows took.

(Although in fairness to TW, Jack was always a bit like that. But it just got worse and worse and worse.)
