(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 12:11 am (UTC)(link)God forbid a female character has flaws! ::sigh:: At this point in my life I have next to zero patience for feminist "critic" of media. Any point they have is often coated in layers and layers of bullshit that I just don't care to see past most days. But you're right that not everyone deals with loss and abandonment the same way however, she's the character we're supposed to access the story through on an emotional level. If she doesn't care that Finn leaves, why should *we* care?
She was skilled enough with her light saber to beat someone who probably had some training with a light saber. I guess that that's assumed for Kylo Ren but he wouldn't get far in his sith training if no one taught him some light saber fighting, right?
I watched a video once where they said Rey wasn't a Sue because protagonists of action adventure stories like this are usually just Special in some way. I suppose that's true but it doesn't really make Rey a better character, it just means the people who write these stories are lazy and unimaginative.
