I actually usually love villains.

Maeglin from the Silmarillion. Headcanon seems to vary on him. Personally I don't think he was tortured or threatened with torture. He seemed pretty eager to betray Gondolin to get what he wanted to me. And plus, he was really gross and rapey with Idril.

On that note, Eol, who did outright rape Aredhel in the form of some sort of spell to force attraction that otherwise wasn't there. I think canon is pretty clear that he bewitched her and it wasn't consensual at all.

Thingol was also kind of an ass and I'm not a huge fan of him.

Xander Harris from Buffy. Oh how I hate him. Ugh. He's such a stereotypical "nice guy" and he only gets a little better in later seasons.

Cordelia Chase. She was a bully. I get that she changed in Angel, but I couldn't get past the way she treated people on Buffy.

Cordelia. She was really representative of a lot of annoying girls I knew in high school. And since I was high school age at the time, that really struck me the wrong way.

I liked Cordelia, but I will say RL Cordelias tend to never change, just become grown up versions of their high school selves. So that doesn't help.

I agree whole-heartedly about Thingol, though I heartily admit my antipathy for him is all based on the POV of my Silmaril characters.

I like Cordelia. Or rather, I liked the role she played in Buffy's life. A non-supernatural adversary for Buffy et al. to deal with.

I understood her role in that sense, though she reminded me too much of bullies I knew in school to actually like her. But then she was dating Xander even though she was basically the same person still. and then they broke up and she was even worse but somehow was still hanging around the gang sometimes. She acted like an adversary, but I don't think we were supposed to see her that way which confused me.
