Non-Villain Fictional Characters That You Hate

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-02-16 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I've been watching some old Scooby Doo episodes with my nephew and I realized how much I hate Scrappy Doo. He is such an annoying, waste of time on screen and I ended up skipping any episodes with him.

Also, after watching the new episode of The Walking Dead, I remembered how much I disliked several characters on that show (Lori and Glenn being the top two at the moment).

What about you?

Ugh, I hated Scrappy Doo even as a kid. He just irritated me.

I don't necessarily hate her, but I strongly dislike Rose from Doctor Who. Her character just rubs me the wrong way.

I go back and forth on Rose. I liked her with Nine. Then she and Ten didn't work for me. Then she kept being brought up even when she was gone and Martha and Donna's seasons became all about her. Then she got to have her cake and eat it too with the stupid human doctor thing.

I wouldn't say I hate her, but her storyline does annoy me and I do tend to dislike her any time past series 1.

Yeah, Rose was not a favorite companion of mine. But I could not stand her or Martha because of how in lurve with the Doctor they were. Blech.

I actually usually love villains.

Maeglin from the Silmarillion. Headcanon seems to vary on him. Personally I don't think he was tortured or threatened with torture. He seemed pretty eager to betray Gondolin to get what he wanted to me. And plus, he was really gross and rapey with Idril.

On that note, Eol, who did outright rape Aredhel in the form of some sort of spell to force attraction that otherwise wasn't there. I think canon is pretty clear that he bewitched her and it wasn't consensual at all.

Thingol was also kind of an ass and I'm not a huge fan of him.

Xander Harris from Buffy. Oh how I hate him. Ugh. He's such a stereotypical "nice guy" and he only gets a little better in later seasons.

Cordelia Chase. She was a bully. I get that she changed in Angel, but I couldn't get past the way she treated people on Buffy.

Cordelia. She was really representative of a lot of annoying girls I knew in high school. And since I was high school age at the time, that really struck me the wrong way.

I agree whole-heartedly about Thingol, though I heartily admit my antipathy for him is all based on the POV of my Silmaril characters.

I like Cordelia. Or rather, I liked the role she played in Buffy's life. A non-supernatural adversary for Buffy et al. to deal with.

Hate is strong, but Rhys on Torchwood annoyed the living daylights out of me.

I don't think that was as much his fault, though, as it was the fact that I just don't like "family member the hero has to Keep Secrets From" characters unless the secrecy is short-lived. After a few episodes/chapters it gets annoying.

Wow. I never realized, until just now, how much I hate that trope. It is always so useless because somebody always finds out who you are and attacks you family anyways. AND THEN THE FAMILY MEMBER CAN'T EVEN PROTECT THEMSELVES.

Ugh, yeah, it's the worst trope. There are very few times when it's actually justified, imo.

Turin from the Silmarillion. What I hate the most is that he never learns from his mistakes and the narrative still treats him as a hero (bordering on woobie).

Nell from NCIS LA. HATE HER!!! She absolutely perfect. She's the bestest computer expert ever. She's also able to use a gun, despite being a tech. And is immediately comfortable going undercover. Everyone wants her for their agencies. She really is a Mary Sue. And, she basically made my favorite character redundant. Worse, they made him interested in her while she seems like she could take or leave him.

Elena from Without a Trace. I actually quit watching this show (right after Martin was shot, a storyline I was REALLY invested in) because of her. I caught the last season and had to fast forward any time she was on screen.

Eric from CSI Miami. Self-righteous asshole. A lot like Turin in why I hate him. He's never called on his attitude. The narrative always treats him as if he was right. When he's wrong, he's never made to say he was sorry. And his relationship with Calleigh completely warped the writing of the show and both characters.

Tauriel. Maybe not hate to the level of the others on this list but I really hated what they did to her character. I hated that she commits treason and pulls a weapon on her king, but HE'S the bad guy. I hated how they never actually let her have a voice or a backstory (everything we learn about her is in promotional material). She feels like an insult to the fans.

Oooooohhhh boy.

Srappy Doo was my favorite as a kid because I loved kid characters, but now my little cousin LOVES Scooby-Doo and I have realized the error of my ways.

My mother and I hated Lori, we used to call her 'Where's your fucking kid, Lori?' as if it was her full name, because it seemed like she spent a lot of time complaining about how Carl needed to be protected and then not actually watching him. We liked Glenn, though.

I hated Gwen on Torchwood and was mostly indifferent to Tosh. I also hate every single Doctor Who companion on first watch, without fail, only to rewatch later and realize I actually like them I was just busy being bitter that they weren't the preceeding companion. Except Martha, who I just never clicked with.

I just dislike Glenn right now because he has plot armor and keeps surviving through things he should not. :|

And yeah, Lori keep an eye on your damn kid and stop being mean to people because they are not washing clothes!

I hated most Doctor Who companions except Donna. <3 Donna.

Oh, ugh, Gwen. Yeah, I did not like her. I think I could have liked her, but the way she was written was infuriating. It was always all about her. Also, she's one of those characters where we're told she's awesome, but we don't actually get to see it (much). I hate that. Then there's her cheating with Owen, while mooning over Jack, while being engaged to Rhys. I can't believe she's the only one except Jack to make it out alive.

I always hated TK and Kari from Digimon. They weren't that bad in the first season (they just didn't really do anything memorable), but in 02 I want to slap them whenever they talk. They come off as obnoxiously goody two-shoes and above everyone who can't be as nice and perfect as them. Too bad they both had moments that could have developed their nastier sides, but those plotlines got dropped.

And I hate Prim from The Hunger Games... for the same reasons, mostly. Which leads me to realize the precocious younger sibling who's doted on and seen as perfect is a type of character I hate in most things. From the same canon I also hate Gale and Johanna, partly because they're assholes who I never came around to sympathizing with as much as the text wanted me to and partly because they have a lot of annoying fans who overlook all their flaws so they can claim Katniss should have ended up with one of them.

Genuinely hate as opposed to dislike, not too many but,

Tony from NCIS, he is insufferable to me.

Scott Pilgrim, who again I find awful(this is only going off the movie though as I've never read the comic, but honestly that movie did not make me want to).

AoS actually made me end up hating Coulson because of how god damn hypocritical he became and I couldn't deal with the show hand waving his, and the team's, desicions away because 'they're the good guys'.

Oh and most of the characters on Torchwood fucked me off, I didn't make it through a season of that.

Shinra from Durarara. Wow I hated that fucker and I hated that Celty ended up with him. It's funny that I harbor all these feelings, given that I wasn't actually particularly invested in Durarara.

I never liked Ginny Weasley from HP.

You didn't like Glenn? He's like my favorite asian character on tv right now and I usually don't pay much attention to them. (I am asian). But different strokes, no biggy.

I have never hated a character as much as I hated Andrea. I was so glad when she was finally killed off. She was a complete failure in every sense of the word.

Hot Rod from Transformers. Anyone stupid enough to get in the way of an epic Optimus/Megatron fight is an idiot.

I loved Noragami, but I hate Hiyori so much that I had to drop it just because of her. She's the worst of every awful anime girl stereotype all in one character. She was all right early on, but then she turned into an oversensitive brat who yelled all the time and was rude to everyone for no reason (all the other rude characters had reasons) in what I can only guess was the writing's very misaimed attempt to make her more badass.

Sam Manson from Danny Phantom. I'm usually one of those fans who defends female characters but dear god she irritated the shit out of me. Just ONCE I wanted her to be in the wrong, or for someone to call her out for being such a massive hypocrite and brat.

Atton, don't really know why.
Anders is a given (villain), but I'm also not terribly fond of Fenris either.
